After Audrey is born, Joey and Nancy waste no time.

Not only has Nancy been spending lots of time with Joey, but she has given her attention to Joe, too. They have been spending lots of time together while Joey has been out and he in none the wiser. Nancy has them both under her spell.

When Nancy is again pregnant, she neither knows who the father is nor cares. All she knows is she has it made. Either way she is now a rich woman.

Joey is soon leaving for the war. He sits down to talk to Joe about the family business.

“Look after Nancy,” Joey tells him. “Make sure that she is taken care of.”

Joe nods and says,”She will be taken care of. Don’t worry about her.”

Joey feels better as he leaves, believing his family is protected and cared for. Josephina cries as her oldest boy leaves and Nancy wipes a tear from her eye and hides her smile.

Josephina despises Nancy. She does not trust her one bit. She wants to get her out of the house, away from her son. She sees how she looks at Joe and has her suspicions. She calls her the gold-digging tramp. Normally, Joe would be the one she turned to when she needed to be rid of someone, but the way Joe looks at Nancy, she doesn’t think he would be much help.

Before Josephina could take care of her problem, her health began to take center stage. She began to have dizzy spells and broke out in hives. She spends her time in bed, rarely leaving.

Joe offers to get the doctor, but Josephina refuses, insisting that she will be fine in a couple of days.

She is not though. Her illness progresses quickly and Josephina is dead by the end of the week.

With Joey away, Josephina dead, and Joe infatuated with Nancy, Sun’s life began to look up. Joe sent Josephina’s twins to live with their father. The father who had been forbidden to see them and they were mere strangers. The twins were out of control and mean as ever. Sun and Pearl sighed a breath of relief to see them go.

Sun was allowed more freedom. She joined a spa and took yoga classes. Pearl continued with practicing the piano and was given financial help to pursue other educational interests by Joe.

Meanwhile, Angelo had always felt like an outsider in his home. Once his grandmother died, he felt alone and misunderstood. He was not interested in being a criminal or their way of life. He loved science and soon found a successful career as a scientist.

He met Katherine and soon fell in love. She reminded him of his grandmother. They married and moved to a new home. Angelo had little contact with his family, but got along well with Katherine’s and was content.
