Sadie and the children were happier on the farm. Sadie had wished that Myron would come get them and they could be a family again, but he stayed away.

Emma was turning 30 and Sadie worried about her. Emma was so sweet and kind to everyone. She devoted her life to the farm and to her family. Sadie wished that Emma would make time for herself, find love.

Sadie began growing flowers and making arrangements to sell along with the crops and the candles Emma made. Sadie and Emma took turns running the vegetable stand. One day Sadie filled in for Emma and a man walked in. He asked where Emma was before buying a jar of honey.

“Someone was asking about you,” Sadie told Emma at dinner.

“Oh,” Emma said,”probably had a question about the produce.”

“I think someone has an admirer. His name was Cal,”Sadie teased Emma.

“No,” Emma blushed,”He just uses a lot of honey. He buys it for his mother. She’s always baking for everyone he says.”

“Or he wants a little honey,”Sadie laughed.

“Sadie,” cried Emma blushing.

“Emma, you give so much to everyone. You deserve some happiness, too. Take some time for yourself. The farm will be okay for a few hours,” Sadie told her.

The next time Emma was selling at her stand she was kept busy. She sold almost all that she had brought. As she started to pack up, she sighed. Sadie had been wrong about Cal. He wasn’t interested in her, a simple farm girl.

“Looks like I’m too late.” Emma heard a voice behind her. She turned around and there stood Cal. Her heart fluttered.

“If you’re looking for honey, I saved a jar for you,” Emma said handing him her last jar.

Cal invited her to dinner and Emma remembering Sadie’s words accepted. They began dating as much as they could considering they both had farms to run. Cal would stop by the farm and fix whatever needed fixing or help with the crops.

Months passed and they were smitten. Cal proposed and Emma’s heart filled with glee. Then she sighed.

“What about the farms?” Emma asked. She could never give up the family farm and she couldn’t ask him to give up his.

“I know how important the farm is to you. Yes, I have worked hard on my farm, but it doesn’t have the family history that yours does. I can sell my farm. Besides, I could never give up the delicious honey from your bees,” Cal laughed.

Emma couldn’t believe it. She was getting married and to a lovely man. She couldn’t believe she was so lucky.

Emma wasn’t the only one that adored Cal. Kerry followed him everywhere. Cal showed him how to repair things and care for the crops. They went fishing together.

Kerry hadn’t seen his father since he was a toddler and didn’t remember him.

Sadie had given up on hearing from Myron. She didn’t even know if he was still alive with the gambling. Would he really have abandoned them this long?

So she was surprised to find him at her door one afternoon.

“Sadie, I’ve missed you,” said Myron wrapping his arms around her.

Sadie hoped that he had changed his ways and was coming back to take them home to be a real family again. She told him about the kids and he told her about the years he had been gone.

“I see some improvements on the farm. We can have a life together again.”

Sadie nodded.

“I just need a little money,” he said taking her hand. She pulled her hand away.

“I will get the big win this time. I know it. I just need a little and then we can have a beautiful house and nice things. We can have it all, Sadie,” he said.

“No,” said Sadie. “I have children and responsibilities. I won’t put them in that situation again. I feared for our lives! I thought you were dead.”

“Sadie, it’s different this time.”

“I think you should go before the kids get home,” Sadie told him.

“But,” he started.

“Sadie said it was time to go,” Cal said coming in the room.

Myron gave Sadie one last look before going out the door.

Sadie didn’t have time to cry for the lose of her marriage and perfect family she had dreamed of. The children would be home any minute. She went outside to get some fresh air.

“Kerry’s in trouble again,” Stella tattled.

“What happened?” Sadie asked pulling him into her arms.

Kerry often got reprimanded for being unable to sit still and speaking without raising his hand. He was full of energy and had a big imagination. If he could he would spend all day outside pretending to go on adventures.

Cal adored the children and hoped to have some of his own. He was excited to learn that Emma was expecting. He began making toys for the new baby when he was done with his work. Emma began knitting clothes.

Emma gave birth to Gabriel. She had never been so happy in her life. Cal doted on the new mother.

Gabriel grew quickly. He loved cats and being outside. He was given attention by everyone. Emma hoped these days of happiness would never end.
